It takes thousands of years to decompose, which means that it will be hanging around in our landfills for a very, very long time. This trash, mostly in the form of plastic bags, can blow around and end up in rivers, birds' nests, and eventually, like everything, the ocean. There, marine life can mistake it for food and try to ingest it and very likely choke to death on it.
